I got no good answer for you Lee, I didn't vote for that party. Maybe the minority position of the last two conservative government gave them a softer image than before, maybe it was due to the lack of a strong Liberal leadership, maybe people were tired of going to the polls and wanted a 4 year break... I got 'nothin. :o

I think the points that I bolded are the main reasons.

A Liberal still won in my old riding (Toronto Centre), and a Conservative won in my family's riding which is usually Liberal (I think there were some non-political factors going on there).

    Some oddities:

thatisme....give up.. you are trying in vain to recover from a grave mistake..

    effectively you HAVE argued wrong:

It does not matter what focal length it is, the SENSOR will create the image.. the only difference is that the EFs lens has a smaller image circle.. NOTHING ELSE changes!!! absolutely NOTHING. I don't get what your problem is.. the mm amount on the lens is what matters... if you only get a 1.6x crop out of the resulting image in comparison to a full 35mm frame has no relevance to the lens.

THE MILLIMETER OF THE ACTUAL FOCAL LENGTH ARE ALWAYS THE SAME!

    end of story.

A canon 55-200 EF-s and a 70-200L lens at 200mm on a canon 7D will produce the exact same image...the same as if you would mount both lenses on a full frame body and crop the image by 1.6.

end of this meaningless discussion now.. geez

    ^^^ thanks for the review!

Can you turn off the 3D and play the games in 2D?

How does it play the DS games?

Looking forward to seeing one over the weekend.

Yep but the benefit of 3D is it masks alot of the games Jaggies, without it on you will notice how Jaggy everything truly looks.

DS games run grand albeit with black borders on each side on top screen.

I'm puzzled by why these apps all just tout iPhone compatibility. Why not also the iPad?

I have an iPad with 3G and the built-in map sucks (compared to my real Garmin Nuvi). I'd pay to have good navigation on it. So why the hate from Garmin?

I think I have the hardware, don't I? I can receive 3G data, which also means my iPad has GPS. Isn't that enough?

Agreed, it's the carrier that sets the time, not the device.

I sleep with my AT&T iPhone set to airplane mode so that it won't disturb me in the night - when I woke up this morning, it was still on the old time. (Good thing I wasn't relying on any alarms)

As soon as I switched off airplane mode, allowing it to access the cell network, it correctly jumped forward an hour to daylight savings time.

Thank (insert deity here) you close minded people don't make the hiring decisions for Apple.

Your beloved company makes a hire that they obviously deem to be beneficial and the peanut gallery thinks they know better.

    Let's see...

Most successful desktop operating system: Microsoft Windows.
Most successful server operating system: Microsoft Windows Server.
Most successful office suite: Microsoft Office.

Three good reasons (and there would be more like Exchange Server, Sharepoint Portal, SQL Server, Visual Studio) to also have confidence in the man if he were hired as a product manager.

Completely unrelated. Despite the fact that being the most successful != being the best (Or infact being reality), the guy should be hired based on his CV and own leadership skills, not the work of other PMs and Engineers.

Like it or not, Microsoft still is the most IMPORTANT software company around, and they don't hire incompetent idiots either.

Great last pitch there. Maybe I should start going on about how RedHat and Oracle essentially run the world. Might balance out all the crap by having it coming out form all sides. I mean, RedHat AND Oracle don't hire idiots. >.>

Agreed we are spoiled. Unfortunately the U.S. has a horrible infrastructure as far as public transportation and such so many people live far from their jobs and have to drive everywhere.

I remember in New Zealand paying $4 something per liter

Here where I live at the Sheetz gas stations its $3.75.

Yes and that is the discussion here in Sweden. As you might know we have a big chunk of our population out in the woods far from any larger cities and these areas are slowly dying in favor of urbanisation. And without any communion service worth mentioning these people suffer from the high gas prices as you might guess.

Either way, didn't mean to offend anyone mattcube64 :)

Like it or not, Microsoft still is the most IMPORTANT software company around, and they don't hire incompetent idiots either.

Before I start, I want to be clear: I see no problem with Apple hiring this guy, I'm sure it was an intelligent, well-reasoned decision regardless of whether or not it works out.

    However, you're just being silly.

Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office were entrenched into the market well over a decade ago, but that doesn't make the current incarnation of the company good at new product development any more than AT&T's history would make it automatically the best cell phone carrier. Visual Studio, Exchange, and SQL Server are enterprise level products, and Apple is not primarily an enterprise-driven business. If you exclude the Xbox (which is only just now starting to pull a profit), the last 5-10 years of Microsoft new consumer-level product development is objectively a sad, profitless story.

(As an aside, including Sharepoint in that list is hilarious. Three out of three companies that I've worked for while Sharepoint was around jumped on that bandwagon and abandoned it in disgust in a year or less. As packaged it is a worst-of-everything-but-hey-at-least-you-have-one-of-everything mess.)

Of course, none of this has anything to do with system administration/architecture, which was the point of the post you were replying to. I'll agree, up to a point, that Microsoft's issue is one of vision, direction, and organization, not engineering talent. The up-to-a-point is that you'd have to be a bit of a weenie (or very risk averse) to be top tier graduate talent to have your whole world at your disposal, and of all the possibilities in the world you'd choose Microsoft over a start up, research group, or more, erm, with the times big corporation (e.g. Google).** Of the CS majors I personally knew in my graduating class at MIT, six work for Google. The only one that works for Microsoft was a business major.

** - Unless you were lucky enough to find a specialized group that Microsoft is dumping research money into that happens to align with what you want to do academically.

Luckily none of you have a Mac Pro with build 8K1079. It is complete *****. Build 8K1079 is horrible, hell-half of System Preferences doesn't work, Rosetta can't keep PPC apps open, can't plug in some USB devices, can't restart without holding power button down, the curtain of death happens.....a lot. So many problems with build 8K1079 that we don't/can't use it at work here.

It's an arbitrary limit imposed by the choice of FAT32 as the file system (which is arbitrarily limited to 32 GB by Microsoft).

I'm pretty sure FAT32 is limited to 4GB files, which is why I had to reformat my external to HFS+ for video editing, since 10GB or larger files are now commonplace. On FAT32, any file larger than 4GB has to be broken up into two files or cannot be written to the file system. I don't know about such limitations on HFS+.

Most professionals use CF cards so they will still need a card reader, especially now that newer cameras don't support Mass Storage anymore for some idiotic reason. You can't connect your camera to your computer via USB anymore, unless you have some retarded application that has a lame interface to download your photos. No more drag and drop, and one more device to carry around, stupid card readers.

Apple supporting SD cards is great but CF cards are still industry standard unfortunately. This will change but not soon.

I would love it if the optical disk became obsolete and something else took over, but there's nothing "permanent" at the moment, so archiving old photos onto an SD card is a waste since the card could be reused. There should be a cheap, read-only version of the SD card, I have no idea how that would be possible, but it would be great.

It's always depressing to see someone else succeed at such an obvious idea. Maybe next time...

The idea is nothing. The kid obviously put time and effort into finding a decent supplier at a low price, marketing, web development. Hats off to him.

If you think you can develop a good idea then go ahead and try, there's loads here: www.ideaaday.org (http://ideaaday.org/)

Make that 133 days! :D Too bad Virtual PC quit on me (and deleted my whole 10 GB windoos partition), because I have 2 finished WU's from my pc @ work (firewall at work blocks the up and download of wu's from Stanford), about 500 points worth! So Red_eye, first try and come close then we see if you've got what it takes to overtake me! :D

Too bad the store is in Belgium, I thought you lived in the Netherlands, Amsterdam or something, then I would have come by some day!!

This is not really new technology.

This is a very common device what is new is that someone is marketing it to Apple.

I agree... But sounds nice, but I just don't think it will pay off. Keep a fan spinning 10 mins longer may set you back around £5-10. + add's size an weight.

    Nice idea, not practical

This is a very bad prescient. The universal binaries are there for a reason, Adobe is not a good Mac developer imo for this reason.

On the other hand, the design professionals won't upgrade to Intel Macs until all of their apps are ported. Once that happens there will be a lot more incentive to switch to Intel, and in the end it will be good for Apple to really solidify the base of Intel-Mac users. I guess this is ripping the band-aid off quick and clean, but it's really not fair to a lot of users.

It is what I've been saying here for the last year. MR readers are not the target audience for the iPad, and that is why they have been so consistently wrong on the iPad's prospects until market data proves them wrong. We are NOT normal -- we like to hang out on a tech rumor site :)

The rest of the world gets the iPad and loves it.

The main problem with the UI I think is that it is too hard to access things that you want to do all the time. Everything is in that annoying palette with all those buttons, when instead Apple should move some things to the toolbar. I want to be able to change fonts and styles and justification with the click of a button.
I thought one of the nice thing was that its all in one place, you don't have to look for it... thats what I liked about Keynote. You can add fonts and colors items to the toolbar AFAIK.

The thing that I don't like about pages is very simple: No text background highlighting and no ruby support, and no vertical text.
