It wasn't too difficult to predict either a Tory majority or minority win as most people vote with the economy. The Bloc/Liberal thrashing was unexpected, especially the Bloc. Perhaps a little more stability on the Quebec question is a good thing. Liberals had a poor platform with a few really good candidates so next time round they need to put some meat on the bones and I'm hoping that this will flush out the old guard Liberals.
For now, it's brown shirts and red arm bands for the next few years. :D (Harper Youth?)

And Microsoft Windows Server ? really ? Is it successful because I have to install 30 of those to run a simple SSO db like AD whereas I can run eDirectory off of 3 Sun boxes and achieve the same results with about 100 times more objects in the directory ?
God, haven't used eDirectory in ages, especially so since Novell has been a bit volatile. Been using a Mixture of FreeIPA/Zimbra OSE/Zimbra Collaboration the last couple of years, much faster and cheaper than a Microsoft stack.
So yes, Microsoft server is so successful because its just the best. :rolleyes:

Actually you'll get the best performance with the single CPU Mac Pro. Logic doesn't do a good job of multiprocessing. It's beats up one core for most tasks. There is supposedly a way to leverage other cores/cpu's by routing tracks through different buses or something to that effect, but that's a ridiculous solution. I'd really only recommend the multi cpu pro's for those using Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects or if you're doing a lot of encoding.
On a 2009 Mac Pro single quad, I've had 45+ tracks (combination of audio and virtual instruments) all with multiple plugins running and it doesn't even flinch.

The above three posts are my best effort translating. That PC guy talks insanely fast. ;)

If anyone cares, they are a comedy duo called Ramens ???? and they have another video that is google-able about the art of apologizing. Not as good, but still funny. There are also a couple of other Flash(?) skits they do (at least it sounds like them...it is just (minimal) animation) riffing on Tokyo train station names (called kyoubashi ??) and on prefecture names (ibaraki ??) that are amusing. Especially if you see yourself in that particular language class.

Just a few details. I can verify the subject of the post is genuine and as far I recall it has been pretty well talked about by Intel and planned for some time. It certainly hasn't been kept secret.
I would however be a touch surprised if it is called the PV. It really is very much an evolution of the PIV and nothing new.
The 1MB Level 2 cache is expected it roughly doubles every fabrication generation improvement at the moment. AMD has already planned the same for the Hammer series. The faster FSB is also nothing new or surprising.
The current PIV has ~55 million transistors though and a rough doubling over a fabrication generational change isn't unexpected.
Really there's nothing new there that Intel hasn't had roadmapped since early 2002 and before.
On the Apple side I have said this before and I will say it again. The G4 core has life. Improvements can be made to easily lift its performance substantially and there are things worth note coming :) Whether they will arrive on time is another matter and whether they will satisfy everybody I can't say but given people are rarely pleased I'd say probably not :p

Seriously, does anyone know how to use an email address that is not a mac.com address as the reply-to in .mac webmal?
I only use the webmail at work, and at home Mac OS X Mail lets me use my "real" email address as the reply-to. I would love to know how to do it in webmail. An earlier poster said you can, but I just can't see how.

Sometimes, copy protection depends on the drive you're using. Some drives will successfully read some copy protected CDs, while others won't. Anyway, the only suggestion I have is Preferences -> Importing -> Use Error Correction.

Apple did the same thing with the DTK hardware... they released a "Software Update" version, with a letter revision to the same build #'s, and it was to enforce security and/or entrap those running the 10.4 Intel build on non-Apple P4 hardware. Get it? Apple Software Update connects to Apple servers, so they know exactly to whom/what/where their "update" is being sent and installed.... then they cross-reference those IP's against logs of ADC member logins (and this is only necessary when assuming the user submitted false info during the Leopard registration, instead of their real name/address). IP match? Boom! Gotcha.
Maybe they just want to see how many of those IP's belong to Microsoft's net. :rolleyes:

From the video there looks like there is a lot of space between the front and back plates and the metal part....perhaps this is a converted iPhone 4 as this is not present on black ones,,,,a bad conversion at that.......:(

Are people overestimating Apple's motives? Could it perhaps not be a masterplan but just that the new motherboard, etc they are using just happens to have this component so it's been included? That could explain why it's hidden around the back. If being placed on the back is deliberate it could just be for aesthetics sake as ports on the front will look messy.

If you look at this picture of the new Mini's logic board (http://s1.guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/eBGMrGURJuJjcmlh.huge) from iFixIt's teardown, it looks like the logic board is just wide enough at the front (right side of the board) of the housing to have accommodated the SD card slot. But it looks like it would have been at the expense of either growing the housing so an inserted card sat flush with it, or having the card stick out significantly (and asymmetrically) from the rounded corner.
I really don't get why people who come up with specs don't think ahead. When SD came out it has a 2GB limit. So they updated it, SDHC for a 32GB limit. Now they had to update it again, SDXC for a 2TB limit. They should have just designed the format to scale in the FIRST place.
For example: CompactFlash came out in like 1994 and has scaled all the way up to like 137GB, when the first cards were under 1MB.

With regard to booting:
I think a lot of people in here are also looking over the fact that the card reader is on the USB bus. Meaning the speeds you'd be limited to would be that of USB 2.0. Internal 5400rpm boot drive would still be faster.
The card reader doesn't show up on the Mini's USB device tree in System Profiler, hence is not a USB device. The USB device tree lists every device that is currently enumerated on the bus.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find people who would refuse to work at the most successful software company in the world, except the most zealot-minded Apple fanboys, such as we have here.
I'm pretty far from a zealot-minded Apple fanboy (just ask anyone here, I'm usually classified the "troll" in Apple related stories because I lack the magic vision it seems), but I would still refuse to work at Microsoft. They have tried their damndest to make themselves the only industry player, squashing evolutions/revolutions in the industry year after year by making their stuff not interoperable and not documented to allow interoperability with other vendors.

I have a need for short term DVD burning capabilities and don't have the luxury of waiting until my G5 ships in August or September.
A certain distributor is selling internal Pioneer Superdrives (05) for $179, but that's BARE, meaning no software/instructions. It fits the budget perfectly in terms of a short term DVD burning solution, but my question is how difficult will it be to install this thing and get my mac to recognize it? (Software isn't as much of an issue -- I'll have DVDSP) I'm no stranger to opening up my tower (to install memory, HD's), but I'm no expert either.
My computer this drive would be going into is a G4 450 (AGP). Both bays are full, one with a DVDROM and the other with a zip (I assume I'd be removing the DVDROM).
Any help/tips/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
