Please contact your local senator and explain your problem. Probably he/she can help you.
Im a legal immigrant, I140 approved and on EB3 waiting list, priority date 04/2006. I need to renew my valid SC driver's license that will expire on 08/15/2010. Went to SC DMV today and they confiscated my valid SC drivers license card, issued a sheet of paper (Letter size) with letter head "Temporary driver's license card" witho no photo on it. This "document" is only valid in SC. May take up to 60 days to re-issue my SC DL card. I'm a professional electronic engineer and my work requires to travel outside the SC state. Why do I need to be punished? Just because I am a foreigner! This is an interesting story where the SC and other states illegal Immigration Reform Act is affecting legal immigrants very badly. Is all about illegal immigrants or there is a growing xenophobia in the USA? If you are a foreigner but legally in this country you are consider guilty until proven innocent? Or all immigrants are consider illegal?

have a US visa stamped and has not expired, they will not let you board a plane to UK.
If you have GC, then there is no need for transit visa. If you are on AP, then you will need transit visa.
I think in the 50s and 60s, an Indian passport holder could enter the UK based on holding a commonwealth passport. Wonder why that policy changed? ;)

OK, my bad for getting the name of the lobbying firm wrong. The moderator is free to change the name of the thread.
Anyway, now that I know that the name is Patton Boggs, doesn't anyone (out of curiosity) want to get their point of view? What does PB have to say about the fact that none of the provisions for legal immigrants went into the CIR? What's their take on the chances that favorable amendments for legal immigrants will make it?
Of course there are no guarantees in life. No one's going to say IV didn't try hard enough even if the CIR in the current form passes. Likewise, I am not saying PB hasn't done much or did not deliver. My questions do not reflect IV's choice to go with PB.
As I said, it just would be interesting to know ... ...
But if no one else finds it interesting, ignore this thread. Don't reply to it.
Thanks,
Jayant

Obviously it will fail...but at least we will do away with these "comprehensive" things and
focus on piecemeal.
they will not "do away" with comprehensive..... if it fails this year they will bring it up again next year and next..... there is no room for piecemeal...... if there were.... they would do it after cir failed in 2006, but they didn't..... they could do after cir failed in 2007, but again they didn't...... or they could do piecemeal in 2008, 9 or 10..... the fact they didn't .... it just tells us that we ought to learn something here..... there is nothing called piecemeal & there will never be anything called piecemeal in this leg of immigration reform, other than our own fantasy world.... so get over it...... there is only 1 way to do it.... cir
lets start the undocumented bashing party now......

Can someone here on this forum list down all the documents that are required to file 140 and 485. Or if this has been discussed in a thread can you please point me to the right forum?
Are you sure you want to do it on your own? If it was that easy, everybody would do it. Considering all the potential pitfalls, it just puzzles me why somebody would go for such a process on their own.
What are you trying to achieve? Save some bucks or show that you are smarter than other people? Even to save a lot of bucks, I don't see how I would do it without a reputed attorney.
Yes they are expensive, but there is a good reason for it: you are buying their expertise. Don't you think that it is worth it?
Anyway, that's just me...Good luck to you.

As I understand, Employer needs to pay for H1B fees. If the employee is asked to pay, it is illegal and you can report to DOL and employer will be in big trouble.

All I said was stuck could have taken the high road as a moderator and conveyed your concerns politely. I would have respectfully expressed understanding and stop doing whatever I was doing. Instead he keeps sending abusive personal messages.
What kind of moderation is this.
Peace:)

Personally I dont think there would be much difference between Eb2 and Eb3 going forward (with Obama\Dick durbin presidency). With Obama CIR we might be forced to reapply in points based system in which case both eb2 and eb3 are screwed. I am not sure what sort of toxic potion is being brewed by Durbin for Eb community. Atleast with Mccain we might have 4 more years of same in which case there might be some hope for both eb2 and eb3.
I don't think there will be any surprises for the next 9 months as India and China have very limited quota per year. Besides the overflow that happens during the last quarter, I guess it is going to be a snail crawl for EB2.
EB3 India - well, can hibernate for the next 3-4 years.

Can i travel out of the country after applying my 485 ,EAD and APO . My I 140 was already approved and I applied for 3 year H1B ext based on that petition ( bumped to premium this week ) .
Any advise
Thanks
Adde
You have to make a decision on whether you want to use the EAD or continue on H1B. It is dependent on how much risk you want to take. On EAD, you are free to do anything (like extra work/income etc) but lose out if your 485 app gets denied. With H1B, you have to get stamping done at a consulate for travel.

I doubt that all the pending applicants in EB categories will be forced to re-apply in the new point based systems. That system might be for the new applicants, There might very well be a recapture for all the lost visa so far...to get thru the pending applications quickly so that the new point based system would be in place...I highly doubt that all the pending applicants will be forced to apply in the point based system...I would like to get input from others as well

Check for past updates on the EAD delays thread. IV had contacted USCIS on EAD delays faced by our members.
Some new updates are also posted for donor members only.
Pappu,
Sorry to sound dumb (but I think I am at this point for having applied for my renewal so late) but would you please provide me the link to the EAD renewal thread that you referred? Also, please let me know if there is a seperate link for paid members and I will access that too (my wife's username has a paid membership)

OCTOBER VISA BULLETIN RELEASED-
INDIAN EB2 NUMBERS NO LONGER UNAVAILABLE
The Department of State has released the October Visa Bulletin today. The Bulletin offers some good news as the EB2 category for Indian Foreign Nationals no longer remains unavailable. Starting October 1, the current priority date for the Indian EB2 category will be June 15, 2002.
This means that any Indian foreign national holding an approved labor certification or green card case with a priority date of June 15, 2002 or earlier, may file their I-485, adjustment of status petition starting October 1, 2006.
The October Bulletin also showed minor movement, of on average a month or so, for the other remaining categories.
Finally, the October Bulletin also confirmed that the retrogression of numbers for Schedule A workers Physical Therapists and Registered Nurses would not occur in October. It is expected that the retrogression will happen in November.
